Youth & Family Counselling

We are currently accepting clients 12 years and older for individual counselling. While we understand that parents/guardians may want their child or teen to attend counselling, the child or teen involved must be willing and able to consent on their own.

If the child/teen under your care is unsure or has questions about what psychotherapy/counselling entails, we can have a meet and greet session and give them the opportunity to make their own decision.

Individuals in psychotherapy have a right to confidentiality. This includes youth and teens. While a parent/guardian may feel curious about what is discussed in session, the therapist is bound by a code of ethics and cannot disclose what is shared without consent from the client. There are, of course, limits to confidentiality. If the therapist has concerns about the client’s safety, it is likely that a parent/guardian would be involved in the conversation about safety planning. A young person may choose to invite their parent or guardian to a session (or several), and this can be a great way to facilitate communication and provide support and solutions as a collaborative team.

Some of the issues a child or teen may be facing and want to seek support for include anxiety, depression, academic stress, self-harm, suicidal ideation, peer and romantic relationships, substance use, body image/self-esteem, gender identity, family conflict, communication and boundaries.
